Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Emily Haworth-Booth is a London-born author, illustrator and educator. She teaches at the Royal Drawing School in London and works across children’s picture books, comics and graphic fiction.
Her first children’s book was The King Who Banned the Dark, which was shortlisted for the Klaus Flugge Prize and the IBW Book Awards. Her short comics have appeared in print in the Observer and Vogue.
She co-created Protest!: How People Have Come Together to Change the World Throughout History with Alice Haworth-Booth. The book is an illustrated history of peaceful protests for readers from age nine upwards, covering examples from 1170 BCE to the present day, and it was published in May 2021.
Her picture book The Last Tree was published by Pavilion Children’s in paperback on 6 February 2020. Her later work Mare was published in 2026.
