Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Emily Howarth Booth is a British author and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She studied at the Royal College of Art, where she developed her skills in illustration. Her debut picture book, The King Who Banned the Dark, was published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2018. The book explores themes of power and protest through the story of a young king who decides to ban darkness from his kingdom.
In addition to her writing, Emily Howarth Booth has contributed illustrations to various projects and has been recognised for her distinctive visual style. Her second picture book, Missing Jack, was published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2020. This book addresses the subject of loss and the experience of saying goodbye to a beloved pet.
Emily Howarth Booth’s work has been acknowledged within the children’s publishing community. The King Who Banned the Dark was longlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2019.
