Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Eloise Williams is a Welsh author known for her contributions to children’s and young adult literature. She studied English and Drama at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and later completed an MA in Creative Writing at Swansea University. Williams worked as an actor and drama teacher before focusing on writing.
Her debut novel, Elen’s Island, was published by Firefly Press in 2015. This was followed by Gaslight in 2017, which was shortlisted for the Tir na n-Og Award and won the YBB Book Award. In 2019, she published Seaglass, which was also shortlisted for the Tir na n-Og Award. Williams’s other works include Wilde (2020) and Honesty and Lies (2022).
In 2019, Williams was appointed as the inaugural Children’s Laureate Wales, a role created by Literature Wales to promote reading and creative writing among children and young people in Wales. She held this position until 2021.
Williams’s books have been published by Firefly Press and Scholastic. Her writing often draws on Welsh settings and folklore. In 2021, Wilde was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year Award in the Children and Young People category.
Her novel Honesty and Lies was published by Scholastic in 2022.
