Eirlys Hunter is a London-born fiction writer. The Robber and the Millionaire was shortlisted for the 1997 Aim Children’s Book Awards.
Hunter’s first adult novel, Between Black and White, was published in 2000. Her short stories have been published in Landfall, Sport and anthologies. She teaches Writing for Children at the International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University.
The Mapmakers’ Race is the first book in The Mapmakers series and is illustrated by Kirsten Slade. It is a middle-grade adventure about Sal, Joe, Francie and Humphrey, who have 28 days to map a railway route through an uncharted wilderness after losing track of their mapmaker mother at the start of the race. The Kindle edition of The Mapmakers’ Race was published on 1 August 2018.
Uprising is the second book in The Mapmakers series and is also illustrated by Kirsten Slade. It follows Sal, Joe, Francie and Humphrey Santander as they search for their missing explorer father and use their mapping skills in Cruxcia, where people are trying to protect their land from the Grania Trading Company. The paperback edition of Uprising was published on 2 November 2021.
