Diane Ewen biography

Diane Ewen is a British illustrator who was born in Walsall, in the West Midlands. She graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a B.A. Honours Degree in illustration. Her illustration process includes hand-drawn pencil work, watercolour, acrylics, Photoshop embellishment and digital design, and her work uses vibrant colour to draw readers into books.

Ewen illustrated Never Show A T-Rex A Book!, written by Rashmi Sirdeshpande and published by Puffin on 6 August 2020. The picture book has 32 pages and is an imaginative story about a child wondering what would happen if a real T-Rex encountered a book. Never Show A T-Rex A Book! won the Queen’s Knickers Award and was shortlisted for the Lollies Laugh Out Loud Book Awards 2022.

Ewen illustrated Coming to England, written by Floella Benjamin and published by Macmillan Children’s Books. The story follows ten-year-old Floella Benjamin travelling from Trinidad to London as part of the Windrush generation, and the illustrated edition was published for young readers aged 4 to 6.

Ewen is the author-illustrator of The Great Unicorn Rescue, a Macmillan Children’s Books picture book for readers aged 3 to 7. The story follows Loella, her unicorn Norrie, a school trip to an enchanted forest and Loella’s fear of the dark, and it was published in 2025.
