David Wyatt (born 1968) is an English illustrator best known for children’s and young adult fiction. He began working professionally at 17 for the British comic 2000 AD, illustrating a strip written by Neil Gaiman. Since then he has built a sustained career across publishing, album art and design, with a particular focus on imaginative and speculative fiction for younger readers.
Wyatt’s long-running collaboration with Philip Reeve includes interior illustrations for the Larklight trilogy and artwork associated with the Mortal Engines and Fever Crumb books. He illustrated Geraldine McCaughrean’s authorised sequel Peter Pan in Scarlet (illustrated edition, 2008) and created cover art for Jenny Nimmo’s eight-volume fantasy school sequence Children of the Red King. His portfolio also spans work for authors such as Diana Wynne Jones, Terry Pratchett and Philip Pullman.
Alongside book work, Wyatt has produced imagery for computer games, music releases and postage stamps. His approach ranges from traditional media to digital techniques, often drawing on mythic and historical motifs. Early musical interests and time spent performing informed the rhythm and drama of his compositions, while a lifelong engagement with storytelling shapes his character and world design.
Wyatt continues to contribute to major series and stand-alone titles for leading UK publishers, providing both interior art and distinctive cover designs that complement the tone and readership of each book.
