Cerrie Burnell biography

Cerrie Burnell is a British author, actress, and former television presenter. She is known for her work as a presenter on the BBC children’s channel CBeebies, where she appeared from 2009 to 2017. Burnell has written several books for children, including Harper and the Scarlet Umbrella (2015), which was published by Scholastic. This book is the first in the Harper series, followed by titles such as Harper and the Circus of Dreams (2016) and Harper and the Night Forest (2017).

In addition to the Harper series, Burnell authored Snowflakes (2013), illustrated by Laura Ellen Anderson and published by Bloomsbury. She also wrote Wilder Than Midnight (2022), published by Hachette Children’s Group, and The Girl with the Shark’s Teeth (2019), published by Oxford University Press. Her picture book I Am Not a Label (2020), illustrated by Lauren Mark Baldo, profiles disabled artists, athletes, and activists.

Burnell’s work has been recognised with several nominations and awards. She was included in the BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour Power List in 2018. I Am Not a Label was shortlisted for the 2021 Little Rebels Children’s Book Award. Burnell has also contributed to anthologies and written for stage and radio.

Her books have been translated into multiple languages. In 2023, Burnell published Harper and the Sea of Secrets, continuing her established series for young readers.
