Bob and Roberta Smith biography

Bob and Roberta Smith is the pseudonym of Patrick Brill, a British artist, writer, musician and art-education advocate. He studied at the University of Reading and Goldsmiths College.

He makes art using text as a central element, often painting slogans and using found materials such as boards and banners. His work frequently appears in galleries and public spaces.

He is Associate Professor at the School of Art, Architecture and Design at London Metropolitan University.

Patrick Brill uses the name “Bob and Roberta Smith” although the persona began in collaboration with his sister Roberta; he continues to use it as his professional name.

He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to the arts.
