Ben Davis biography

Ben Davis is a British children’s author who previously worked as a stand-up comedian and wrote jokes and sketches for radio programmes and greeting cards. He has also worked as a postman, an experience that later provided the basis for his novel My Brilliant Plan to Fix Everything. His first children’s novel, The Private Blog of Joe Cowley, was published by Oxford University Press in 2014 and developed into a series about a teenage aspiring comic artist.

Davis continued writing for children with books including What’s That in Dog Years? and The Soup Movement. Published by Oxford University Press in 2020, The Soup Movement follows Jordan, who gives his unwanted homemade soup to a homeless man called Harry and becomes involved in a growing community project. The book was nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal, shortlisted for the Little Rebels Children’s Book Award and longlisted for the UKLA Book Awards. It also won several regional children’s book awards, including the Derbyshire Schools Book Award, Warwickshire Junior Book Award and Brilliant Book Award.

His later novels include My Dad Is Definitely Not a Crime Lord and My Brilliant Plan to Fix Everything, both published by Scholastic. Davis is also the author of Nosy Crow’s Lenny Lemmon series, illustrated by James Lancett. Lenny Lemmon and the Invincible Rat won the Sheffield Children’s Book Award in 2024.

In January 2026, Gallery Kids, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, published Postman Planet, the first in a highly illustrated young-fiction series written by Davis and illustrated by Yasmin Sheikh. The series follows a nine-year-old intergalactic postman and continued in 2026 with The Big Stink.
