Beatrice Simpkiss biography

Beatrice Simpkiss is a freelance illustrator, designer and picture-book author. Her work includes editorial illustration, children’s books and book-cover design.

She studied Illustration at Arts University Bournemouth. In 2020, she was named D&AD New Blood Festival Ones to Watch for Illustration, placed second in the Penguin Random House Student Design Award children’s nonfiction cover category, and was included in So Young Magazine’s Gradlist.

Her listed clients include Aquila Magazine, Arts University Bournemouth, BCP Council, D&AD, Mary Anning Rocks, Scoop Magazine, Studio Lambert, Popshot Magazine, The Arts Development Company and The Skinny Magazine.

Her debut picture book, Ziggy the Caterpillar’s Zigzag Adventure, is published by Big Picture Press, an imprint of Bonnier Books UK. The story follows Ziggy, a caterpillar who cannot sit still, as Ziggy meets new friends and learns about patience, difference and self-discovery.

Ziggy the Caterpillar’s Zigzag Adventure was published in hardback on 2 July 2026.
