Baljinder Kaur biography

Baljinder Kaur is a British children’s author and illustrator known for her picture books that draw on Sikh stories and themes. She studied Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art, where she completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration. Kaur’s work often explores cultural identity, spirituality, and mindfulness, and she is recognised for her distinctive illustration style.

Her debut picture book as both author and illustrator, The Girl Who Lost Her Laugh, was published by Otter-Barry Books in 2021. The story follows a young girl named Noor who embarks on a journey to rediscover her lost laughter, exploring emotions and resilience. Kaur has also illustrated My Dadi’s Lemon Tree by Rina Singh, published by Lantana Publishing in 2023, which celebrates intergenerational relationships and cultural heritage.

In addition to her published books, Kaur has contributed illustrations to anthologies and educational resources, and her artwork has been featured in exhibitions. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and has participated in events promoting diversity in children’s literature.
