Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Aneesa Marufu is a British author known for her contributions to children’s and young adult literature. Her debut novel, The Balloon Thief, was published by Chicken House Books in 2022. The book is a fantasy adventure that explores themes of identity and belonging, set in a world inspired by South Asian culture.
Marufu’s work has been recognised for its unique voice and cultural representation. The Balloon Thief was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2023, highlighting its impact and popularity among young readers.
