Ana Punset is a Spanish children’s and young adult author and journalist. She studied Audiovisual Communication at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and completed a master’s degree in Writing for Film and Television at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her early professional work included cultural journalism and literary criticism for Spanish newspapers, including El Diari de Tarragona.
Her children’s fiction series El Club de las Zapatillas Rojas began in November 2013 with a novel published by Montena, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The story follows four friends, Lucía, Frida, Bea and Marta, who establish a friendship club when Marta’s family prepares to move to Berlin. Punset subsequently wrote further instalments in the series, alongside the New York Academy and Best Friends Forever collections.
In May 2022, Montena published Unicornia: Un lío con brilli-brilli, the first book in Punset’s illustrated fantasy series for younger readers. Illustrated by Diana Vicedo, it introduces Claudia, a girl who moves to the magical city of Unicornia and attends a school where pupils learn spells, make potions and practise flying on unicorns.
The series was introduced to British readers by Walker Books as Unicornia: Learning to Fly, published on 6 June 2024. Subsequent English-language instalments include Unicornia: The Frozen Palace, in which Claudia and her friends visit an icy palace during a school trip.
Punset has also written further stories set in the Unicornia universe, including the spin-off series Rescatadoras de Unicornios, published in Spanish by Montena. The eighth English-language Unicornia adventure, Unicornia: A Snowy Surprise, illustrated by Diana Vicedo, was published in the UK by Walker Books on 8 October 2026.
