Alyssa Hollingsworth biography

Alyssa Hollingsworth writes children’s and young adult fiction, including fantasy. She earned a BA in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from Berry College, an MA with honours in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University, and a PhD in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University with a thesis titled Breaking the Curse: Retelling a Folk Fairy Tale to Explore Trauma and Healing in Novels for Young People.

Her debut middle-grade novel, The Eleventh Trade, was published by Roaring Brook Press and follows Sami, a refugee child from Afghanistan, as he tries to recover his grandfather’s stolen rebab in Boston. The Eleventh Trade has a page count of 320 pages, an age range of 10–14, and an on-sale date of 9 August 2020 for the Square Fish edition.

Her novel The Invisible Boy was written with art by Deb JJ Lee and was published by Square Fish. The book is described as a mystery and adventure story that addresses child labour trafficking.

In 2026, Hollingsworth’s fantasy novel All the Queens’ Curses was published, drawing on Scottish folklore and retelling the Orkney Isles fairy tale “Kate Crackernuts”.
