Alan Carrigan biography

Alan Carrigan is an Irish novelist and screenwriter. He began working on a novel while taking a creative writing course at university and later joined the Evolve animation writing programme for under-represented writers, delivered by Creative Skillnet and the National Talent Academy.

Carrigan has worked as a script editor for Ink and Light Films and D11 Stories. He was also selected as a writer for Screen Stories 2025, a professional development programme organised by Tilting the Lens and Screen Ireland.

His debut young adult novel, Then We’ll Be Happy, is published by Chicken House. It follows Sam, a 17-year-old with cerebral palsy who campaigns for change after being excluded from another school trip and required to spend the day with a student who bullies him. Chicken House publishes Then We’ll Be Happy in the UK on 30 July 2026.
