Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Nicola Morgan is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult literature. She has written over a hundred books, including fiction and non-fiction titles. Morgan’s notable novels include Wasted, which won the Scottish Children’s Book Award in 2011, and Fleshmarket, which was shortlisted for the Whitbread Children’s Book Award in 2004. Her novel Sleepwalking was shortlisted for the Sheffield Children’s Book Award and the North East Book Award.
Morgan has also published several non-fiction books aimed at young people, focusing on topics such as the teenage brain, stress, and wellbeing. Titles include Blame My Brain: The Amazing Teenage Brain Revealed, first published in 2005, and The Teenage Guide to Stress, published in 2014. Blame My Brain was shortlisted for the Royal Society Young People’s Book Prize.
Her work has been published by Walker Books and other major UK publishers. Morgan is a member of the Society of Authors and has contributed to educational resources and events for schools. In 2018, her book The Teenage Guide to Life Online was published, addressing digital wellbeing for young people.
