Our review:

Aurelia Wycherley is a blossoming young witch from a reputable family, set to embark on her debutante season in Mabon, the start of the magical season. That is, until she is afflicted by the curse during the Thunder Moon—a hereditary affliction imposed by her ancestor’s nemesis, Heston Nightly.

Unlike other witches, Aurelia is unable to tether with an eternal magical partner for fear of the deadly impact of her cursed magic, leaving her rejected and isolated from her peers. Without a tether, she is destined to lose her magic at the close of her third debutante year—until the implausible Jules Nightly materialises at the Royal Ball.

In a surprising and complex fellowship, Aurelia and Nightly seek answers to the recent mysterious deaths of witches, the appearance of strange runes, the untold secrets of the Royal Magical Council, and, most critically, a means for the untethered to retain their magic—alone.

Our verdict:

The Wycherleys is a gripping read with an intriguing plot, urging the reader to solve its mysteries, empathise with Aurelia, and witness the budding relationship between the main characters. It will be highly enjoyable for those who delight in fantasy worlds, magical adventures, and gentle romance.
