Our review:
Bowie’s latest instalment featuring Nina, a budding illustrator and dreamer, bursts with doodles, energy and humour. The young reader is presented with a relatable dilemma to many: the disappointment of staying at home during the summer holidays while friends set off on exciting adventures. Fortune, however, occurs when Nina’s mother books a last-minute trip to ‘Sunshiney Island’.
Nina’s high expectations – fuelled by her devotion to a travelling social media influencer – are hard to uphold; the promised glamour of chocolates on pillows gives way to a far less dazzling reality. And worse yet, Nina’s holiday takes an unexpected turn when she encounters her class nemesis, Megan. Could Nina be any unluckier?
Bowie’s storytelling is fast-paced and engaging, with lively illustrations and witty annotations featuring in every panel of the narrative. Beneath the fun, deeper themes of self-expression, creativity and resilience resonate throughout, offering opportunities for reflection and classroom discussion.
Our verdict:
Nina Peanut: Epic World Tour Era is a vibrant, accessible read, brimming with relatable characters and laugh-out-loud moments. It is perfectly suited to reluctant readers and makes an ideal choice for end-of-year classroom reading.
