Our review:

Cheeky chomping on piranha pizza, dragon fruit and orange pizza, crab claw pizza, or even a chocolate pudding fruit pizza. When Pappa Panther’s Pizzeria opens, pizzas cost 10 pebbles. Otto the otter and Ali the alligator both save 5 pebbles a week each, so the only way to buy a pizza is to share.

Ali can pretty much eat a whole pizza in one bite, so sharing doesn’t go well. After a few weeks of not getting his fair share, Otto gives his pebbles to Ali, saying he “knew Ali didn’t mean to be greedy.” Ali then realises how unfair he’s been and finds a way to make things right.

How Not to Share a Pizza offers a touch of maths, examples of patience, plenty of kindness, and a large dollop of sharing. This is a great social story that younger children will relate to – especially through the quirky characters and the universal love of pizza! Learning what it’s like to be friends with someone who doesn’t share introduces the idea of conflict resolution, and one of the biggest takeaways is how Ali feels when he finally shares his pizza equally. Being kind makes him feel better.

It’s a powerful message for children to reflect on their behaviour, how it affects others, and how it makes them feel in return. Promoting positive life skills with guinea pigs galore, the illustrations are fun and filled with cute characters that will make 2–7-year-olds giggle.
