Our review:
Kraken Island, gold treasure, fairies, pirates, mermaids and even a unicorn. Don’t Disturb the Pirate is full of adventure and characters 3 to 6-year-olds yearn for in a book. Join our hero with catchy, rhyming prose to find Patch his lost puppy.
Through bright, colourful and exciting scenes this is an enchanting stand-alone story but, would also sit well amongst the authors’ previous books 10 minutes to bed. A mild worry about disturbing the pirate helps to build emotional skills for children, with the main character being brave and his fears being unfounded at the end.
The illustrations are engaging with glistening fish, tiny turtles and a cute and quirky seagull. There’s plenty for youngsters to search for during the story with lots of little extras like an octopus, crabs and twinkly stars.
Our verdict:
Although the tale can be enjoyed anytime, it makes a great bedtime story with an exciting, explorer/adventure style beginning following through to a calmer, sleep-inducing ending.
