Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Zeno Sworder is an Australian children’s author and illustrator. He is known for creating picture books that explore themes of family, identity, and belonging. Sworder’s debut picture book, This Small Blue Dot, was published by Thames & Hudson in 2020. The book draws on his own experiences and heritage, and features hand-drawn illustrations alongside thoughtful text.
Sworder’s second picture book, My Strange Shrinking Parents, was published by Thames & Hudson in 2022. This work also reflects on family and cultural heritage, and has been recognised for its distinctive illustrative style and narrative approach.
Zeno Sworder’s books have received critical attention and have been shortlisted for several awards. This Small Blue Dot was shortlisted for the 2021 CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) Book of the Year: New Illustrator award. My Strange Shrinking Parents was shortlisted for the 2023 CBCA Picture Book of the Year award.
Sworder continues to write and illustrate picture books, contributing to contemporary children’s literature with works that reflect diverse experiences. In 2022, My Strange Shrinking Parents was published by Thames & Hudson.
