Yoshihiro Togashi biography

Yoshihiro Togashi is a Japanese manga artist, born in Shinjō, Yamagata Prefecture, in 1966.

He began drawing manga in primary school and submitted work to publishers while still a student. While attending Yamagata University, where he studied education, his talent was recognised by Shueisha.

Togashi’s professional debut was with the short story Buttobi Straight, which won the 1986 Tezuka Award. His first serialised manga was Ten de Shōwaru Cupid (1989–1990).

He gained prominence with Yu Yu Hakusho, serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1990 to 1994. The series won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1993 and was adapted into a long-running anime television series.

In 1998 he began Hunter × Hunter, another Weekly Shōnen Jump serial, which became one of his most successful works. It has been adapted into two anime series (1999–2001 and 2011–2014), multiple films and video games.

Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon.
