Xinran biography

Xinran is a British-Chinese author, journalist, and broadcaster known for her work exploring the lives and experiences of Chinese women. She began her career as a journalist in China, where she hosted a radio programme called “Words on the Night Breeze” from 1989 to 1997. The programme focused on women’s issues and provided a platform for women to share their stories.

After moving to the United Kingdom in 1997, Xinran began writing about the personal histories and challenges faced by women in China. Her first book, The Good Women of China, was published in 2002. The book is based on the stories she heard during her time as a radio presenter and has been published by Chatto & Windus.

Xinran has written several other books, including Sky Burial (2004), Miss Chopsticks (2007), China Witness (2008), Message from an Unknown Chinese Mother (2010), and Buy Me the Sky (2015). Her writing often draws on interviews and personal accounts, focusing on themes such as family, identity, and the impact of social change in China.

In addition to her writing, Xinran is the founder of The Mothers’ Bridge of Love, a charity established in 2004 to support children in China and those adopted from China by families around the world.

Xinran’s book Buy Me the Sky was published by Rider in 2015.
