Tsugumi Ohba is a Japanese writer best known for creating the manga series Death Note and Bakuman. Ohba is credited as the writer, working in collaboration with illustrator Takeshi Obata. Death Note was first serialised in the manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2003 to 2006 and has been published in English by VIZ Media. The story follows a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing their name in it.
Following the success of Death Note, Ohba and Obata collaborated again on Bakuman, which was serialised in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2008 to 2012. Bakuman centres on two students who aspire to become successful manga creators. This series has also been published in English by VIZ Media.
Ohba’s works are known for their intricate plots and psychological themes. The author’s identity remains anonymous, and personal details are not publicly disclosed. In 2015, Ohba and Obata launched another series, Platinum End, which was serialised in Jump Square magazine.
One of Ohba’s most notable milestones is the completion of the Death Note manga series in 2006.
