Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Tim McCanna is an American author and illustrator of children’s books. Simon & Schuster notes that he wrote Bitty Bot’s Big Beach Getaway, an ALA Golden Duck Notable Picture Book; Watersong, named a New York Public Library Best Book for Kids; and In a Garden, which was selected as a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year.
His debut as an author-illustrator came with Peach and Plum: Here We Come!, the first in the Peach and Plum early graphic novel series.
McCanna’s work spans picture books and graphic novels. He has also produced titles such as Jack B. Ninja, Barnyard Boogie, So Many Sounds, and Boing! A Very Noisy ABC.
He holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing for Musical Theatre from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
When not writing or illustrating, McCanna engages in school visits, delivers talks at writing conferences, and mentors emerging authors through Storyteller Academy.
One of his works, Watersong, was recognised by the New York Public Library as a Best Book for Kids.
