Sylvia Plath was an American poet, novelist, and short story writer. She is known for her contributions to twentieth-century literature, particularly in poetry and fiction. Plath attended Smith College and later studied at the University of Cambridge. Her writing is often associated with the confessional poetry movement.
Plath’s only novel, The Bell Jar, was first published under the pseudonym Victoria Lucas in 1963. The novel draws on her own experiences and is regarded as a significant work in modern literature. In addition to her novel, Plath published several collections of poetry, including The Colossus and Other Poems (1960) and Ariel (published posthumously in 1965).
Plath’s poetry is noted for its intense imagery and exploration of personal themes. Her work has been widely studied and included in educational curricula. In 1982, Sylvia Plath was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for The Collected Poems.
