Susan Hood biography

Susan Hood is an American author known for her work in children’s literature, including picture books, early readers, and middle grade novels. She has written over 200 books for young readers, with her work spanning both fiction and non-fiction. Hood began her career as an editor at Scholastic and later worked as the children’s content director at Nick Jr. Magazine.

Her books often explore themes of history, social justice, and resilience. Notable titles include Shaking Things Up: 14 Young Women Who Changed the World, which features illustrations by a range of female artists, and Lifeboat 12, a middle grade novel in verse based on the true story of a young boy’s survival during World War II. Hood has also written The Last Straw: Kids vs. Plastics, a non-fiction picture book addressing environmental issues, and Titan and the Wild Boars: The True Cave Rescue of the Thai Soccer Team, co-authored with Pathana Sornhiran.

Her work has received recognition from various organisations, including the Bank Street College of Education and the American Library Association. Lifeboat 12 was published by Simon & Schuster in 2018.
