Stephen Grosz is a British psychoanalyst and author known for his work in the field of psychotherapy and for his writing on the subject. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and later trained in psychoanalysis at the Institute of Psychoanalysis in London. Grosz has taught clinical technique at the Institute of Psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic theory at University College London.
His first book, The Examined Life: How We Lose and Find Ourselves, was published by Chatto & Windus in 2013. The book is a collection of case studies and reflections drawn from his more than twenty-five years of clinical practice. The Examined Life has been translated into multiple languages and has been widely discussed in the media and academic circles.
Grosz has contributed articles and essays to publications such as the Financial Times, Granta, and the London Review of Books. He is recognised for his ability to communicate complex psychoanalytic ideas to a broad audience through accessible prose and real-life examples.
In 2013, The Examined Life was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award.
