Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Sophie McKenzie is a British author known for her work in children’s and young adult fiction. She began her writing career after attending a creative writing course and published her debut novel, Girl, Missing, in 2006. The book was shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award and won the Red House Children’s Book Award in 2007.
McKenzie has written several series, including the Missing trilogy, which comprises Girl, Missing, Sister, Missing, and Missing Me. She is also the author of the Medusa Project series, which follows a group of teenagers with psychic abilities. Other notable works include the Blood Ties duology and the Flynn series.
Her books have been published by Simon & Schuster. In addition to her young adult novels, McKenzie has written thrillers for adults, such as Close My Eyes and Trust in Me. Her writing has received recognition from various literary bodies, including the Manchester Children’s Book Award and the Bolton Children’s Book Award.
In 2014, Girl, Missing was voted one of the top ten books in the Independent Booksellers’ Book Prize. McKenzie’s work has been translated into multiple languages and is available internationally.
