Shiro Amano is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator best known for the official comic adaptations of Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts video game series. His work translates the action-adventure narrative and ensemble cast of the games into serialised manga, retaining core plotlines while adding character moments and visual comedy for readers.
Amano’s Kingdom Hearts adaptations span multiple instalments, beginning with the first game and continuing through storylines such as Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II and 358/2 Days. The series was serialised in Square Enix magazines and collected in tankōbon editions. English-language releases have appeared in collected volumes from different publishers over time, bringing the manga to an international readership.
Beyond Kingdom Hearts, Amano has produced manga work connected to other Square Enix properties, including a comic adaptation of Legend of Mana. His illustrations have also featured in guidebooks and promotional materials linked to the games. An art collection presenting his designs and colour pieces for Kingdom Hearts has been issued for the book market.
Amano’s style blends dynamic layouts with clear character acting, emphasising expressive faces and readable action. His adaptations are widely used by fans of the games as companion narratives and remain in print across multiple editions.
