SebrIna O’Connor biography

Sebrina O’Connor is a British children’s writer specialising in picture books. She is the winner of the Jericho Prize 2025 for Best Picture Book Script (ages 3–7) with her manuscript Dou Dou’s Brave. The Jericho Prize recognises new Black-British writers of children’s books and partners with industry organisations to provide mentoring and professional development opportunities for its winners.

Before her win, O’Connor was recognised by the Jericho Prize in the 2022/23 competition, when she was named a finalist and highlighted as a “writer with potential”. She has continued to develop her craft through the prize network and industry events, sharing works-in-progress and engaging with readers and educators.

O’Connor writes picture-book texts designed for reading aloud in early-years and Key Stage 1 settings. Her scripts focus on strong rhythm, clear pacing and themes suitable for classroom discussion. Following her 2025 award, she has been featured by children’s-book news outlets and the Jericho Prize’s own channels, which have profiled the creation of Dou Dou’s Brave and her approach to storytelling.
