Scott Cawthon is an American video game designer, developer, and author, best known for creating the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. He began his career developing games and animations, initially releasing titles independently. Cawthon gained widespread recognition in 2014 with the release of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s game, which he developed and published himself. The series quickly expanded to include multiple sequels and spin-offs, all centred around the horror-themed narrative of animatronic characters in a fictional pizzeria.
In addition to his work in game development, Cawthon has authored several books based on the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe. The first novel, Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes, was published in 2015. This was followed by further titles, including Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Twisted Ones and Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Fourth Closet. These books expand on the lore and characters introduced in the games, offering readers a deeper exploration of the series’ themes and storylines.
Cawthon’s works are published by Scholastic, and his books are aimed at young adult and older children’s audiences. He has continued to develop new content within the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, including additional games and literary projects. In 2015, Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Silver Eyes was published by Scholastic, marking his debut as a children’s and young adult author.
