Scarlett Li biography

Scarlett Li is the children’s-books pen name of writer Lui Sit, who was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Australia. She writes middle-grade fiction alongside adult short fiction and non-fiction, and publishes for UK and international markets.

Her middle-grade debut, The Lucky House Detective Agency, was published by Knights Of in 2025. Aimed at readers aged 7+, the story follows Felix, who helps in his family’s Chinese takeaway and forms a small detective club to solve a local mystery. The book features black-and-white illustrations by Siân James and is available in paperback and other formats through standard trade channels.

Publisher biographies also credit Li with further children’s writing, including Land of the Last Wildcat (Macmillan, 2025). Her work is listed by major bibliographic services and children’s-book retailers, and appears in reading-for-pleasure resources used by schools and libraries.

Li continues to write for middle-grade readers, developing accessible, character-led stories that can be used for independent reading or group discussion in primary classrooms.
