Sarah Walsh biography

Sarah Walsh is an American illustrator and designer whose work spans children’s books, editorial commissions and product design. She grew up in upstate New York and earned a BFA in graphic design. After early work in commercial illustration she developed a portfolio in publishing, known for bright palettes, hand lettering and character-led compositions.

Walsh has illustrated a number of nonfiction titles for young readers that present biography, nature and culture with a visual, accessible approach. These include Herstory: 50 Women and Girls Who Shook Up the World (with Katherine Halligan), Kidstory: 50 Children and Young People Who Shook Up the World, and WildLives: 50 Extraordinary Animals That Made History. She is also the illustrator of Hats of Faith (written by Medeia Cohan) and Goddess: 50 Goddesses, Spirits, Saints, and Other Female Figures Who Have Shaped Belief (with Janina Ramirez).

Alongside books, her clients have included organisations such as The Washington Post, PBS and The British Museum. Publisher biographies credit more than two decades of professional experience across picture-book interiors, covers and licensed ranges.

Her illustrated edition of Roald Dahl’s Matilda was published in October 2020.
