Ryoko Fukuyama is a Japanese shōjo manga artist whose work has appeared primarily in Hakusensha’s magazines for teenage readers. She debuted in the early 2000s and has since written and illustrated several long-running series noted for sharp character drama and stylish, youth-culture settings.
Fukuyama’s breakthrough came with Nosatsu Junkie, a fashion-world comedy-drama about rivalry and identity in modelling. She followed with the darker school tale Monochrome Shōnen Shōjo (Monochrome Kids), expanding her reputation for page design and ensemble casts.
Her best-known series is Fukumenkei Noise (Anonymous Noise), a music-themed story that links band life with first love and ambition. Serialised for several years in Hana to Yume, it was adapted into a 12-episode television anime broadcast in 2017 and a Japanese live-action feature film released the same year. The manga concluded its magazine run in 2019 and has been collected in tankōbon editions.
Across these works Fukuyama focuses on performance, self-expression and the tensions between public image and private feeling. Her artwork pairs clean linework with dynamic layouts that emphasise movement, stagecraft and emotional beats, making her stories popular in schools and libraries for readers seeking contemporary shōjo with music, fashion and friendship at its core.
Selected works: Nosatsu Junkie; Monochrome Shōnen Shōjo (Monochrome Kids); Fukumenkei Noise (Anonymous Noise; anime and live-action film, 2017; manga concluded 2019).
