Rosemarie Somaiah is a Singaporean author, storyteller, and educator known for her work in children’s literature and oral storytelling. She has written books for young readers and contributed to anthologies and educational resources. Somaiah is the founder of the Asian Storytelling Network, Singapore’s first professional storytelling company, where she leads workshops and performances for schools, libraries, and community groups.
Her published works include Indian Children’s Favourite Stories, released by Tuttle Publishing in 2006. This collection features traditional tales from India, retold for a contemporary audience, and is illustrated by Ranjan Somaiah. Somaiah’s stories often draw on her Indian heritage and explore themes of culture, tradition, and values.
In addition to her writing, Somaiah is active in promoting storytelling as an educational tool. She has conducted training sessions for teachers and librarians, and has performed at festivals and events in Singapore and internationally. Somaiah’s work has been featured in educational publications and she has contributed to the development of storytelling programmes in schools.
