Rob Harrell is an American author and illustrator known for his work in children’s and young adult literature. He created the syndicated comic strip Adam@Home, which he began drawing in 2009, taking over from creator Brian Basset. Harrell is also the creator of the comic strip Big Top, which ran from 2002 to 2007.
Harrell wrote and illustrated the graphic novel Monster on the Hill, published by Top Shelf Productions in 2013. The book was adapted into the animated feature film Rumble, released in 2021.
He is the author of the middle-grade novel Wink, published by Dial Books for Young Readers in 2020. Wink was inspired by Harrell’s personal experience with a rare eye cancer and has received critical acclaim. The book was named a Junior Library Guild selection and was included in several best-of-the-year lists.
Harrell’s other works include the Life of Zarf series, beginning with Life of Zarf: The Trouble with Weasels (2014), followed by Life of Zarf: The Troll Who Cried Wolf (2015), and Life of Zarf: Troll Overboard (2016), all published by Dial Books for Young Readers. He also wrote Batpig: When Pigs Fly (2021), the first in a graphic novel series featuring the character Batpig.
Harrell’s books have been published by major publishers including Penguin Random House and Top Shelf Productions. Wink was longlisted for the 2021 CILIP Carnegie Medal.
