Rebecca Yarros biography

Rebecca Yarros is an American novelist best known for the Empyrean fantasy series. She studied European history and English at Troy University and began publishing contemporary and military romance before moving into fantasy romance for adult and older teen readers.

The Empyrean series opens with Fourth Wing, published by Red Tower Books in 2023 and issued in the UK by Piatkus/Little, Brown. It introduces Violet Sorrengail, a trainee at Basgiath War College, in a world of dragons, politics and warfare. The sequel, Iron Flame (2023), continues Violet’s story with higher stakes and expanded worldbuilding. A third volume, Onyx Storm (2025), develops the series’ central conflicts while maintaining the blend of action, intrigue and romance that has attracted a wide readership.

Alongside fantasy, Yarros has written contemporary titles including The Things We Leave Unfinished and The Last Letter. Her work appears on bestseller lists in the US and UK, and UK editions of the Empyrean novels are published by Piatkus.

The Empyrean series is in development for television, with Yarros attached as a non-writing executive producer. Onyx Storm was published on 21 January 2025.
