Pie Corbett is a British educationalist, poet, and author, known for his work in literacy and creative writing for children. He has written and edited numerous books for young readers and teachers, including poetry collections, story anthologies, and educational resources. Corbett is the creator of the Talk for Writing approach, a widely used methodology in UK primary schools designed to improve children’s writing skills through oral storytelling and imitation.
Corbett’s published works include The Works series, which are anthologies of poetry for children, and Jumpstart! Literacy, a collection of activities for teachers. He has also written Evidence of Dragons, a poetry collection, and co-authored Jumpstart! Poetry and Jumpstart! Storymaking with Julia Strong. His books are published by major educational publishers such as Macmillan, Routledge, and Scholastic.
Corbett has contributed to the National Literacy Strategy in England, advising on the development of teaching materials and approaches. He has also worked as a headteacher, inspector, and lecturer, and has delivered training and workshops for teachers across the UK.
In 2009, Corbett received the Fred Inglis Award from the English Association for his outstanding contribution to children’s poetry. His Talk for Writing programme has been adopted by thousands of schools and is recognised for its impact on literacy education.
