Phil Cummings biography

Phil Cummings is an Australian author who has written more than seventy books for children. His work spans picture books, junior fiction, and novels for young readers. Cummings grew up in South Australia and began his writing career in the early 1990s.

His first published book, Goodness Gracious!, was released in 1991. Since then, Cummings has collaborated with a range of illustrators and publishers, producing stories that cover a variety of themes and genres. His books have been published by companies including Scholastic Australia, Little Book Press, and Allen & Unwin.

Cummings has received recognition for his contributions to children’s literature. His picture book Boy, illustrated by Shane Devries, was shortlisted for the 2018 Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Award for Early Childhood. Another title, Ride, Ricardo, Ride!, illustrated by Shane Devries, was shortlisted for the 2016 CBCA Picture Book of the Year.

In addition to his writing, Cummings has participated in school visits, festivals, and workshops, sharing his experience with students and educators. His book Touch the Moon, illustrated by Coral Tulloch, was published by Allen & Unwin in 2019.
