Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Peter Lantos is a British author and retired medical researcher. He was born in Hungary and survived the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a child during the Second World War. After the war, Lantos trained as a doctor in Hungary before moving to the United Kingdom in 1968. He pursued a career in medical research, specialising in neuropathology, and became a professor at King’s College London.
Lantos has written both scientific works and memoirs. His memoir Parallel Lines recounts his experiences during the Holocaust and his later life. In 2023, he published The Boy Who Didn’t Want to Die, a children’s book based on his childhood experiences during the Holocaust. This book was published by Scholastic in the UK.
