Peter Bunzl is a British author and animator, best known for his middle-grade fiction. He studied animation at the National Film and Television School. Bunzl’s debut novel, Cogheart, was published by Usborne in 2016. The book was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the Branford Boase Award, and it won the Dudley Children’s Book Award. Cogheart is the first in a steampunk adventure series, followed by Moonlocket (2017), Skycircus (2018), and Shadowsea (2020).
Bunzl’s books have been translated into multiple languages. In addition to writing, he has worked as an animator and filmmaker, contributing to various short films and television projects. His work in children’s literature has been recognised with nominations for the Carnegie Medal and the Books Are My Bag Readers Award. Cogheart was selected for the 2017 BookTrust Future Classics list.
In 2022, Bunzl published Magicborn, a standalone historical fantasy novel for children, also with Usborne. His books are published in the UK and internationally. Cogheart was included in the 2017 Blue Peter Book Awards shortlist.
