Osamu Tezuka was a Japanese manga artist, cartoonist, and animator. He is widely recognised for his pioneering work in the manga and anime industries. Tezuka studied medicine at Osaka University but chose to pursue a career in manga and animation. His early work includes the manga New Treasure Island, published in 1947, which played a significant role in shaping modern manga.
Tezuka created numerous influential series, including Astro Boy (originally Tetsuwan Atom), Kimba the White Lion (originally Jungle Taitei), and Black Jack. His storytelling techniques and character designs have had a lasting impact on Japanese comics and animation. Tezuka also founded the animation production company Mushi Production, which produced several notable anime adaptations of his works.
Throughout his career, Tezuka received various awards for his contributions to manga and animation. In 1984, he was awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award for The Buddha. His influence continues to be acknowledged in the manga and anime industries worldwide.
One of Tezuka’s significant milestones was the publication of Astro Boy in 1952.
