Nina Raine biography

Nina Raine is a British playwright and theatre director. She studied English at Christ Church, Oxford. Raine began her career in theatre as a trainee director at the Royal Court Theatre in London. She has directed and written plays that have been staged at prominent venues in the UK.

Her debut play, Rabbit, premiered at the Old Red Lion Theatre in 2006 before transferring to the Trafalgar Studios in the West End. Rabbit won the Most Promising Playwright Award at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards in 2006. Raine’s subsequent plays include Tribes, which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 2010, and Consent, which was first staged at the National Theatre in 2017.

As a director, Raine has worked on productions such as Shades by Alia Bano at the Royal Court Theatre and Unprotected at the Liverpool Everyman, which won the Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2006.

Raine’s play Bodies was produced at the Royal Court Theatre in 2017. Her work often explores themes of family, communication, and social issues. In 2018, Consent was transferred to the Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End.

In 2022, Nina Raine’s play Bach & Sons was published by Nick Hern Books.
