Nicola Yoon biography

Nicola Yoon is a Jamaican-American author known for her young adult novels. She studied electrical engineering at Cornell University and later completed a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Emerson College. Yoon’s debut novel, Everything, Everything, was published by Delacorte Press in 2015. The book tells the story of a teenager with a rare illness that prevents her from leaving her home and explores themes of love and self-discovery.

Her second novel, The Sun Is Also a Star, was published by Delacorte Press in 2016. This novel follows two teenagers in New York City over the course of a single day and addresses issues such as immigration and fate. Both novels have received critical attention and have been included in various reading lists for young adults.

Nicola Yoon is also a co-author of Blackout, a collaborative novel published in 2021 by Quill Tree Books, alongside authors Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon. The book features interconnected stories set during a power outage in New York City.

Yoon’s work has been recognised by several literary organisations. The Sun Is Also a Star was a National Book Award finalist for Young People’s Literature in 2016.
