Nick Cave biography

Nick Cave is an Australian author, musician, songwriter, and screenwriter, widely recognised for his work across multiple artistic disciplines. He is the frontman of the band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, which was formed in 1983. Cave’s literary work includes novels, screenplays, and collections of lyrics and prose.

Cave’s debut novel, And the Ass Saw the Angel, was published in 1989 by Black Spring Press. The novel is set in the American South and is known for its distinctive narrative style. His second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro, was published in 2009 by Canongate Books. This work follows the story of a travelling salesman and his son, exploring themes of grief and redemption.

In addition to his novels, Cave has published several collections of lyrics and writings. The Complete Lyrics: 1978–2013 was published by Penguin in 2013, compiling lyrics from his extensive music career. Cave has also written screenplays, including for the film The Proposition (2005), directed by John Hillcoat.

Nick Cave’s work has been recognised in various fields. In 2022, he published Faith, Hope and Carnage, a book co-authored with journalist Seán O’Hagan, which presents a series of conversations reflecting on his life and creative process.
