Melissa Albert is an American author known for her work in young adult fiction. She is the author of The Hazel Wood, published by Flatiron Books in 2018. The novel became a New York Times bestseller and was recognised for its blend of contemporary and fairy tale elements. Albert followed this debut with a sequel, The Night Country, released in 2020, and a collection of short stories, Tales from the Hinterland, published in 2021. Her books have been published in multiple languages and have received critical attention for their narrative style and imaginative settings.
Before publishing her novels, Albert worked as a managing editor for Barnes & Noble’s teen blog. She has contributed to various publications and has participated in literary events and festivals. The Hazel Wood was named a Junior Library Guild selection and appeared on several best-of-the-year lists, including those compiled by the American Library Association. In 2022, Albert published Our Crooked Hearts, a standalone young adult novel with elements of fantasy and suspense.
Albert’s works are published by Flatiron Books, an imprint of Macmillan Publishers. Her novels have been optioned for adaptation, and she continues to write for young adult audiences. The Hazel Wood was longlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal in 2019.
