Martin Bunton is a historian of the modern Middle East and a faculty member at the University of Victoria. His teaching and research focus on the political and social history of the region, with particular attention to Palestine and the Arab–Israeli conflict.
He is the author of The Palestinian–Israeli Conflict: A Very Short Introduction, which outlines the conflict’s historical development and core debates. Bunton is also the co-author and revising scholar of William L. Cleveland’s survey text A History of the Modern Middle East, contributing substantial updates to later editions.
He has published articles and chapters on land, law and administration in late Ottoman and Mandate Palestine, and contributes to reference works and textbooks used in university courses internationally. The seventh edition of A History of the Modern Middle East credits William L. Cleveland and Martin Bunton as co-authors.
