Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick is an Irish author and illustrator known for her work in children’s literature. She has written and illustrated numerous picture books, including There, Izzy and Skunk, and Hagwitch. Fitzpatrick’s debut picture book, An Chanáil, was published in 1988 by An Gúm.
Her book There won the Bisto Book of the Year Award in 2005. Fitzpatrick has received the Bisto Book of the Year Award three times, for Izzy and Skunk (2000), You, Me and the Big Blue Sea (2003), and There (2005). She has also been awarded the Reading Association of Ireland Award and the Children’s Books Ireland Book of the Year Award.
Fitzpatrick’s young adult novel Hagwitch was published by Orion Children’s Books in 2013. Her other works include Timecatcher and On Midnight Beach. On Midnight Beach was shortlisted for the 2021 CILIP Carnegie Medal.
Her books have been published by several major publishers, including Walker Books, Orion Children’s Books, and An Gúm. Fitzpatrick’s work has been translated into multiple languages. She has served as a judge for the Children’s Books Ireland Book of the Year Awards.
In 2021, On Midnight Beach was shortlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal.
