Lucy Prebble biography

Lucy Prebble is a British playwright and screenwriter known for her work in theatre and television. She studied English at the University of Sheffield. Prebble’s debut play, The Sugar Syndrome, premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 2003 and won the George Devine Award and the Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright.

Her second play, ENRON, was first staged at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2009 before transferring to the Royal Court Theatre and then the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End. ENRON explores the collapse of the American energy corporation and was shortlisted for the Evening Standard Award for Best Play.

Prebble’s other stage works include The Effect, which premiered at the National Theatre in 2012 and won the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play, and A Very Expensive Poison, which opened at the Old Vic in 2019. The Effect was revived at the National Theatre in 2023.

In television, Prebble created the series Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which aired from 2007 to 2011. She is also a writer and executive producer on the HBO series Succession, which began in 2018.

Lucy Prebble was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2018.
