Linda Bailey is a children’s author whose work includes novels, picture books and non-fiction. She was born and grew up in Winnipeg, and later earned a B.A. and an M.Ed. at the University of British Columbia. Before writing full-time, her jobs included travel agent, college teacher, instructional designer and editor. Her first book was published in 1992.
Bailey has written almost forty books for children, including Lena the Chicken (But Really a Dinosaur!), The Great Dinosaur Sleepover, The Three Little Mittens, Carson Crosses Canada, Princesses Versus Dinosaurs and If You Happen to Have a Dinosaur. Her series work includes Stanley, Stevie Diamond, Good Times Travel Agency and The Time Travel Guides.
Mary Who Wrote Frankenstein, written by Bailey and illustrated by Júlia Sardà, was published by Tundra Books on 28 August 2018. The book is a picture-book biography about Mary Shelley and the creation of Frankenstein, and it is for readers aged 5 to 9. Bailey also wrote Arthur Who Wrote Sherlock, another title in the Who Wrote Classics series.
Her Stanley books include Stanley’s Party, Stanley at School, Stanley at Sea, Stanley’s Beauty Contest, Stanley’s Little Sister and Stanley’s Wild Ride. Stanley’s Party was published in 2003 and was illustrated by Bill Slavin. Bailey’s awards include the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Juvenile for How Can a Frozen Detective Stay Hot on the Trail? in 1997 and How Can a Brilliant Detective Shine in the Dark? in 2000.
Mary Who Wrote Frankenstein won the 2019 UK School Library Association Information Book Award for ages 7–12 and was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal.
